The movie Gladiator is very present in the popular imagination for being one of the best-made epic films in history, with a very strong plot and, at the same time, very moving. It was released in 2000 and directed by Ridley Scott, with stars such as Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel and Richard Harris. Crowe plays Maximus Decimus Meridius, a loyal Hispanic general in the army of Ancient Rome, who is betrayed by Commodus, the emperor's ambitious son, who has murdered his father and seized the throne. Forced to become a slave, Maximus triumphs as a gladiator while longing to avenge the death of his family and his emperor.
The film received numerous awards and nominations, including five Oscars at the 73rd American Academy Awards, including best film and best actor for Crowe. The Maximus Sword from the movie Gladiator (licensed) is a reproduction of the sword of General Maximus from the licensed movie Gladiator.
