The Japanese Nodachi sword is a very large, two-handed battle sword. Nodachi translates as "field sword", although the meaning of "nodachi" is also the same as ōdachi which means "great sword". Due to its large size, the blade is very difficult to forge and requires great body strength to wield it properly.
During peacetime, the Japanese sword Nodachi was worn slung across the back as a status symbol. It is said that a Nodachi could cut a warrior and his horse in two with a single blow. This sword was used by Sasaki Kojiro, a very skilled and deadly swordsman with the Nodachi.
The Nodachi appears in manga and anime video games. It is interesting to see the proliferation of Nodachi in fiction.
