Disinherited and expelled by his father Cedric, the Saxon, for declaring his love for Lady Rowenta, the young nobleman Ivanhoe sets out with his sword to the Holy Land crusades with Richard I the Lionheart, finding himself mixed up on his return in the latter's fight with his brother Prince John.
Loved by the beautiful Rebekah, daughter of the Jew Isaac of York, Ivanhoe will defend the innocence of the young woman with spear and sword after having been accused, by the Grand Master of the Order of the Templars, of being possessed by the devil and of having placed a love spell on Brian de Bois-Guilert, a knight of the Order.
Finally, Cedric gives in to his son's demands, and the wedding of Ivanhoe and Lady Rowenta takes place at York Minster in the presence of the King. This link will consolidate the union of Saxons and Normans, enemies since the conquest of England by William of Normandy.
